Apple iPhone X:
The 10th anniversary of Apple’s iPhone is here, and it’s called Apple iPhone X (pronounced “Apple iPhone Ten“). The company based in Cupertino, California, made it official at an event on the Apple Campus at the Steve Jobs Theater, and in our review of the iPhone X, we called it “the best iPhone of all time.”
In fact, Apple CEO Tim Cook called the new iPhone X “the biggest advance since the original iPhone,” and it’s easy to see why. The OLED screen, an iPhone first, is called the Super Retina display and measures 5.8 inches, with a resolution of 2,436 × 1,125 pixels.
It features Dolby Vision and HDR10 for stunning high-contrast video playback, as well as the dynamic TrueTone white balance setting, a feature of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the new iPhone 8 models. The screen takes up the entire screen and There is no start button: unlock your phone with your face. Oh, and it’s resistant to water and dust. it is capable of charging wirelessly.
The iPhone X was completely redesigned from top to bottom for the tenth anniversary of the iPhone. With a crystal on an aluminum body, the iPhone X completely eliminates the start button and introduces new gestures, as well as Face ID for authentication.
Unlike other iPhones, the iPhone X only comes in one color: black. However, it seems that Apple has also planned to launch a golden version. After a period of confidentiality of 180 days, the Federal Communications Commission published images of the legendary Golden iPhone X.
The images were first noticed by The Verge, and although we do not know why a golden iPhone never happened, we can speculate that production problems caused Apple to dismiss the idea.
Price & Availability:
Some operators, such as Sprint, are reducing discounts to customers. New and existing customers in the operator’s Sprint Flex plan can obtain a 64GB iPhone for $ 22.22 per month for 18 months ($ 400) with an eligible exchange.
Apple released a support document on the OLED screen of the iPhone X. The document states that users can see slight changes in color when they look at the screen from an angle. Apple also warned that users can experience burns on the screen with prolonged use of the phone.
But more recently, DisplayMate, the company that makes professional quality software for screen calibration, published its detailed results for the iPhone X. According to its tests, the iPhone X has the best screen for smartphones on the market.
Based on laboratory tests and measurements, the device obtained the DisplayMate A-plus rating, which is the highest in history. The results showed that the X had close to “perfect calibration and performance of textbooks“, along with the highest absolute color accuracy, the highest full-screen brightness for OLED smartphones, among others.
Apple published pricing information on phone repairs. In the USA, Apple will charge a fixed fee of $ 280 for screen repairs of the iPhone X and $ 550 for any other damage. If it is a manufacturing defect, it is covered by Apple’s one-year standard warranty.
The price also varies according to the country where you are:
- U.K: 286 euros for screen repairs, 556 euros for other damages.
- Australia: $ 420 for screen repairs, $ 820 for other damages
- Canada: $ 360 for screen repairs, $ 710 for other damages
- Germany: 321 euros for screen repairs, 611 euros for other damages.
- But these prices only apply to those who do not buy AppleCare + for the iPhone X. AppleCare + is optional, but extends the coverage of an iPhone to two years depending on the original purchase date of the device. If you decide to buy the extended warranty plan, then repairs to the screen will only cost you $ 30 and any other damage will be $ 100.
The production problems supposedly hinder the supply of the iPhone X
Apple sells the iPhone X in 55 countries around the world, however, some manufacturing problems meant that some consumers initially had to wait more than a month to receive the phone
According to The Wall Street Journal, the Face ID sensor of the iPhone X took longer to assemble than expected, contributing to shipping delays. The delay was due to an “imbalance” between the so-called Romeo module, an infrared spot projector that emits more than 30,000 invisible points to create a depth map of faces, and the Juliet module, which analyzes the pattern produced by those points.
Sources close to the situation say that it was reported that Apple’s solution would allow suppliers to reduce the accuracy of the Face ID feature of the iPhone X.
After the Bloomberg detailed report on the accuracy of Face ID was reduced, Apple responded to the claim. Company spokeswoman Trudy Muller said: “Bloomberg’s claim that it reduced the accuracy specification for Face ID is completely false and we expect Face ID to be the new gold standard for facial authentication.”
Muller also assured users that the quality and accuracy of Face ID remain the same, and the possibility that someone else unlocks your phone is still one in a million.
The iPhone X camera has a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual lens and dual-image optical stabilization, consisting of a wide-angle lens f / 1.8 and a telephoto lens f / 2.4. The 7-megapixel front camera supports portrait mode and has automatic image stabilization and exposure control.
The new Apple image signal processor offers advanced pixel processing and a new color filter, and both cameras use the new natural lighting effect introduced in the iPhone 8 and ARKit augmented reality functions. Finally, the video has also been improved with 4K resolution movies at 60 fps and slowmotion video at 240 fps.
DxOMark, a website focused on evaluating the quality of the image for mobile phones, lenses and camera sensors, recently evaluated the iPhone X. The site published its results, which indicate that the device received an overall score of 97 out of 100.
It has six cores and better performance than the A10 Fusion chip, and while Apple does not normally publish RAM specifications, the files of China’s electronics regulator, TENNA, show that the iPhone X has 3 GB of RAM.
Apple says that high-performance cores provide a 25 percent speed increase and a 70 percent increase in the four performance cores.
With respect to iPhone X battery life lasts approximately two hours longer than the iPhone 7 Plus with a single charge. That is not surprising; According to the statements of Chinese electronics regulator Tenaa, the iPhone X has a 2,716mAh battery, which is not far from the 2,900mAh of the iPhone 7 Plus.
It supports wireless charging through Qi-compatible accessories, and Apple will introduce a patented charging solution called AirPower early next year.
The new facial recognition technology from Apple, Face ID, makes its debut on the iPhone X. It works with the TrueDepth camera system hidden in the notch at the top of the screen. Look at the iPhone X and illuminate your face with a matrix of infrared points, which allows the infrared camera to identify it.
It even works in the dark. Using the Bionic A11 six-core processor of the iPhone X combined with 3 GB of RAM, a neural engine processes the image in real time, mapping the contours and the shape of its face mathematically.
Apple claims that Face ID is not confused with hairstyles, hats or beards. According to Apple’s software chief, Craig Federighi, the iPhone will also be able to recognize its face through “most” sunglasses, as long as they let in enough infrared light.
Mask and image protections are in place, and face data is stored in the secure enclave inside the A11 Bionic chip.
Do not worry about Face ID being less secure than other biometric systems; It is not. The possibility of someone other than you unlocking your phone with Touch ID is one in 50,000, says Apple, but for Face ID it’s one in a million.
Apple Pay requires you to look at your phone when you pay, and it works with existing applications that use Touch ID for authentication.
In addition to that, Apple has implemented some software protections against people who steal your phone and only hold it in front to unlock it. To begin with, if you do not stare at the phone, it will not unlock. And if you press the buttons on both edges of the phone, the device will temporarily disable facial recognition.
